Providing disaster relief

Preparing for disasters, delivering immediate response, enabling sustained relief

In FY25, we supported Thread Together and Fareshare to increase disaster preparedness by organising essential supplies for distribution. By using technology to identify high-risk areas, expanding local storage capacity and building local partnerships, Thread Together helps vital resources reach affected families quickly when disasters strike.

We provided rapid response funding to Spanish Red Cross for relief and recovery efforts following floods in Valencia, benefiting over 100,000 people. During the catastrophic Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025, the Goodman Foundation commenced discussions with the LA Fire Department Foundation to determine their infrastructure needs, and we’re currently finalising plans to provide two rapid response vehicles for future emergencies.

In Australia, we enabled Fareshare to distribute more than 82,000 meals to communities affected by floods and cyclones in NSW and Queensland, while Thread Together distributed 19,500 units of brand-new clothing to more than 2,800 people across disaster-affected regions in Queensland and NSW.

Beyond immediate relief, our partners like Little Olive in Japan delivered long-term recovery initiatives in Japan’s Noto Peninsula following earthquakes and typhoons in 2024. This work helped residents to improve emotional wellbeing, restore community stability, and rebuild resilience in disaster-affected regions.

Ongoing impact from infrastructure investments

Our approach to providing tangible infrastructure support for disasters results in investments that continue to have impact year after year.

Our investment in a state-of-the-art helicopter continues to benefit the NSW Rural Fire Service and the wider community. It enables the NSW Rural Fire Service to provide fast, flexible, and effective aerial response across multiple emergency scenarios. In FY25, the helicopter performed 79 operations supporting firefighting, flood response, search and rescue, and public safety operations across the state. In addition, on-going training kept the crew and aircraft mission-ready year-round.

The Foundation’s partnership with UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) sought to strengthen Ukrainian healthcare capabilities and safeguard the lives of newborns in conflict zones. The project provided state-of-the-art mobile incubators to deliver lifesaving support for premature and vulnerable newborn babies. Nine incubators were delivered in 2024, providing long-term impact for approximately 1,600 newborn babies each year.
